FAQs

  • Leaflab has a width of 38 inches, depth of 16 inches, and height of 52 inches.

  • Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil, using a nutrient-rich water solution to deliver essential minerals and nutrients directly to the plant roots. It can be thought of as a controlled, soil-less environment for plant cultivation.

  • LeafLab is $4000 CAD.

  • It takes about 6 months to 1 year. And on your end you need to refill water, nutrients, seeds every once in a while, and let it do its thing. Here is the maths below:

For this example, we’re going to assume you’re going to just grow basil. LeafLab has 25 planting spots and will plant them all with basil. Healthy basil plants can yield 2-4 ounces of basil per week. Walmart sells basil for $2/ounce (CAD). Factor in roughly 2 months of downtime to rotate plants, clean, and allow them to grow, and you’re looking at saving over $4000/year (CAD) by growing it in LeafLab. So if LeafLab costs four thousand dollars, it’ll take you about a year to make that money back in savings.

Note that this number varies depending on what you grow, how often downtime is needed, and other factors.

  • Currently we’re working with lettuce and basil. Once our system can properly manage them, we want to expand to other herbs (cilantro, oregano, chives, etc), leafy greens (kale, spinach, arugula), and maybe introduce tomatoes, peppers, strawberries and more.

  • None at all! The app will help you keep track of everything. It also provides some descriptions of the process if you’re curious to learn what is happening!

  • We have an app to provide basic instructions to make sure LeafLab has everything it needs, and it will do the rest itself. So some of the things you will need to do is refill water, nutrients, solutions, and seed cups. Nutrients, solutions and seed cups are part of the subscription package and arrive monthly, and water needs to be refilled every 2 weeks. Apart from that, the app will tell you when something is ready to harvest! So plan your meals, and eat to your heart's content!

  • When you purchase LeafLab, we include a three-month supply of essential nutrients and pH controllers, ensuring your plants receive the care they need right from the start.

To make your gardening journey even more seamless, we provide you with the option to order cups, specially curated with your selection of herbs, through our website. These cups can be conveniently acquired via a monthly subscription service, tailored to your preferences.

Additionally, LeafLab is designed to be smart and proactive. When your machine detects a low nutrient level, it will automatically trigger a notification. In response to this notification, we will add a nutrient refill to your subscription, so you never have to worry about running out of essential supplies. Our goal is to make sure your gardening experience is as effortless and enjoyable as possible.

  • At max capacity, LeafLab will need to be refilled with 2L of water every two weeks.

  • LeafLab has gone through multiple iterations with a committed focus on enhancing the user experience. Our aim is to make the process as effortless and seamless as possible. Users only need to perform four simple steps:

Fill the LeafLab water tank with water.

Place the nutrient bottles in the machine's base.

    Insert the nutrient cups.

Create a machine profile using the LeafLab application.

When it comes to maintaining LeafLab, it's a breeze. We offer two easy cleaning methods. The first is to follow the cleaning instructions within the application's sanitization mode. Alternatively, you can remove the water tank from the machine and rinse it out in your household sink.

In essence, we like to sum it up as "set it and forget it." With LeafLab, we've taken care of the complexities, so you can enjoy a hassle-free gardening experience.

  • In a drip system, a small tube delivers the nutrient solution directly to the plant's root zone. In a flood and drain system, the plant containers are periodically flooded with the nutrient solution and then drained to ensure oxygen can reach the roots.
